A good accompanist makes the person out front sound better and never gets in the way. I'm Evan Read — pianist for The Augusta Players at the Imperial Theatre downtown, with 20+ productions behind me as music director or accompanist, and a strong sight-reader who can be useful on the first read, not the fifth.
Theater & production work
Rehearsal and performance accompaniment for musicals, plays with music, revues, and cabarets. I've spent years in theater pits — Atlanta, Chicago, and now home in Augusta — and I know the job: follow the conductor, follow the singer, catch the cut-off, keep the tempo honest when the adrenaline doesn't.
Available for full production runs, rehearsal-only blocks, sitzprobe and tech weeks, or emergency coverage when your pianist falls through.
Audition & recital accompaniment
College auditions, community theater auditions, NATS and honor choir prep, church solos, recitals. Bring your book; I sight-read well and transpose when the morning demands it. For students: a run-through beforehand is always worth it — book fifteen minutes ahead of the audition slot and walk in calm.
Vocalists & instrumentalists
Ongoing accompaniment for singers and instrumentalists — lessons, competition prep, performances. If you have a voice teacher, I work from their markings; if you don't, I'll help you find the keys and cuts that flatter you.
Session & recording work
Studio-ready piano tracks for demos, singles, and scores — in person around Augusta or remote from my own setup. Send a reference track or a chart; you'll get takes, not excuses. My own recording work is on the listen section of the homepage, including the 2023 EP Rhapsodies in Red and Green.
Rates & booking
Audition and rehearsal accompaniment is typically hourly; productions and session work are quoted by scope. Tell me what you're working on — you'll hear back within 24 hours.
