Live piano turns a nice evening into an occasion. I'm Evan Read, an Augusta-based pianist, and I play the rooms where the music isn't the show but makes the show work: galas, client dinners, cocktail receptions, anniversary parties, and holiday gatherings across the CSRA.
Corporate events
Galas, award dinners, client receptions, holiday parties. What you're booking, beyond the music: someone who shows up early, dresses for the room, reads the energy, and never needs managing. The music runs from jazz standards and classical through tasteful instrumental takes on pop — pitched at conversation level, lifted when the room calls for it.
For event planners and coordinators, the logistics answers up front:
- Setup: if the venue has a piano, I need nothing but a bench. Otherwise I bring a professional stage keyboard and self-contained sound — one trip, small footprint, no house PA required.
- Timing: flexible on load-in windows, run-of-show changes, and extended sets. Events drift; the music shouldn't be the thing that can't.
- Requests: a client's favorite song, a walk-up moment, a themed set (holiday, Gershwin, jazz) — say the word in advance and it's ready.
- Paperwork: invoicing and any vendor documentation your venue requires, handled promptly.
Private events & parties
Dinner parties, milestone birthdays, anniversaries, engagement parties, holiday open houses. A pianist at a private gathering does something a speaker system can't: guests notice, gather, request songs, and remember the night as the one with live music.
For smaller rooms the keyboard setup is compact and the volume is honest — background when people are talking, foreground when they're listening.
What it sounds like
